Energy Saving Tips for the Winter

Saving money in the cold season is as easy as 1,2, 3,

1. Conserve Energy

  • Turning down your hot water heater several degrees can save you a great deal of money over a year and it could also save you from scalds.

  • Adjust the float on your toilet so that you use less water when flushing.

  • Taking a five minute shower (50 liters) instead of a bath (150 liters) saves a lot of water!

  • Turn your water valves on and off every six months to keep them in working order. A stuck valve can cause a flood.

2. Prevent Drafts

  • Seal your windows to prevent drafts and provide another layer of insulation
  • Insulate your outlets to prevent drafts with this easy fix - and here's a fun how-to video!

  • Remove baseboards and caulk cracks between the wall and floor to prevent drafts along outside walls.

3. Clean Your Fixtures

  • Don't forget the lightbulbs when dusting. A dusty bulb will give off up to 50 per cent less light.
