Point of View - The Canadian Home Inspector
If you've just come across this blog, allow me to extend a hearty welcome. This is my first foray into the blog-o-sphere, and I'm excited and a little apprehensive at the same time, but here goes the leap!
I make my living looking at houses… well, not exactly. People pay me, not to look at the house, but to highlight the problems with the house, and whenever I can, point out a thousand ways they can help make the home last years longer, or improve the livability of where they spend most of their time.
On a daily basis I see the end results of the one or another handyman’s weekend endeavors. I’m sure there are competent do-it-yourselvers out there – their work goes unnoticed because it was done properly. The stuff I get to report on is usually the work of someone who thought "it will do for now". Unfortunately, these are things that are usually forgotten about when the house is for sale, and then there's a few "oops" moments that come up.
What I hope to present in this space is to show you a few interesting "postcards from the field" and help you be a bit of an inspector yourself, to recognize problems when they start to come up, and solutions that work for you, your budget, and your lifestyle.
My friends lovingly (I hope) like to think of me as a know-it-all, but in most cases, any good inspector can carry that badge, a little tongue in cheek, but it's true. It's important that we maintain a constant stream of continuing education, in order to provide the best service and support that we can to our clients.
