Wet basements can be prevented
Clean it up!
The number one reason for perimeter drain failure causing wet basements or crawl space is roof water and debris collected in the gutters flowing down the down pipes and depositing directly into perimeter drains, filling them with roof debris and all that extra water. While it's raining outside (which is happening a lot in the Lower Mainland right now) walk around your home and take a look at your gutters. Is water pouring off the gutters onto the ground? If it is, you've diagnosed a potential threat to your basement's dryness. With all the recent storms, it's likely that debris has gathered on your roof and been washed into the gutter area, causing plugs here and there.
A better way is to discharge water onto a splashtray carrying the water 40 to 50 cm away from foundation and using the ground to filter out the debris and limit the amount of water as well.
I know I've had to do this myself a few times this week. I haven't done a perfect job yet as I've been just getting at the corners of the home, at the downspout. But, as soon as it is safe, the ladder is going up and I'm cleaning them again.
