New Westminster is no longer a secret.
The unique mix of Craftsman, Victorian, mid-century stucco ranchers and post-war bungalows make New Westminster such a rare and beautiful neighbourhood in the Lower Mainland and a real treat for me, as a home inspector, because they always offer some interesting building and renovation challenges, some very well done, some, well, challenging! The wide neighourhood boulevards and yards that have established gardens and it's turning out to be a great invest...

Newton is Surrey’s largest neighborhood in area and in population.
The original settler, E.J. Newton, lived in the area of 72nd Avenue and 124 Street in 1886.
One hundred and thirty two years later, Mr. Newton would be surprised to find such a diverse group of cultural communities. One of the largest Vaisakhi parades in the world is hosted by this community and many of Canada's newest immigrants find value in purchasing their first home and living in Newton.
I live here myself, and in many...

White Rock
White Rock is one of the most sought after neighborhoods in the Lower Mainland, and its mix of young families, professionals and retirees, artists and local home-based businesses make it one of the most livable areas of Canada. South Cloverdale, and a few rare lots in Clayton still have a few older homes in the area, built in the first half of the 20th Century - from 1911 to 1950.

Do you know the most common problem I see in houses that I inspect in Surrey, Langley, North Delta, and especially parts of White Rock?
And I have to agree on one thing first. I love houses on hills. They often provide a view, or a level of privacy that houses on flat topographical areas do not.So, have you guessed it yet? It’s not what you think. It’s not foundations, or plumbing or electrical. In fact, it’s something outside of the home.
Due in a large part to the topographical nature o...

There's a few things I see in new construction these days in the Lower Mainland that might meet the code, but they are very poor quality. Other's seem to have been skipped by for some reason. The takeaway from this , is it's all in the lack of attention to details. SOMETIMES. Not all new construction is bad! Here's a few things I've been seeing a lot more of lately.CLOSETS: Think about taking a measuring tape with you when you look around at the home for sale. Over and over again, I'm seeing clo...

What is a home inspection?
First things first, a home inspection is a visual evaluation of a home’s condition. Home inspectors typically provide inspection services to determine the performance of the home. The inspection isn’t just about identifying problems with the house. When you're on the inspection with me, it's going to be like a master class in your home.
All kinds of things can contribute to keeping your home well maintained, including this rainy weather in the Lower Mainland and...
